Posted by gogoalie on Mar 07 2006 Well lets take a look at the factors in any growth, one, you need food, wolves eat lots of meat, so there must be plenty of ruminants out there for the wolves to be eating, as well, you need to reproduce in order for populations to grow, it goes without saying that with plenty of food, there will be reproduction, now, even with control, there's no dent in the population, that should say that the control methods are only clearing out sub adults & not the breeding pairs...Likewise, someone suggesting that pelt prices are down means less trapping, less trapping means more wolf survival, so it follows that numbers are going to increase, & as David has stated, wolves move around a lot, so, as I stated earlier, any loss of population in on area, a new pack will move into that area that's been culled, perhaps a hardier, smarter pack that's more elusive than the prior pack, wolves are smart & learn...
