[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] too much... Posted by Jktimm on Mar 08 2006 I flew air taxi from Lake Hood for 3 years. Most drop-off caribou/ moose hunters tipped between $20- $100. Basically the tip was for the little extra flying around so you can get the "lay of the land" before you get out of the airplane. It's a much more productive hunt if you see the animals from the air, know where the creek dumps into the lake, how to get to the top of the ridge, etc. All of that is much easier from 500ft rather than trying to figure it out through binoculars. Not to mention picking a spot to camp from anywhere along a shoreline. That's what to tip for, and it's perfectly OK to ask your pilot for this extra 2 minutes of flying, you're paying the bill. On the other hand, I'm certain that an owner/operator would not accept a tip, rather have you back next year. I was just a hired hand. Good Luck.
