480 vs 44
Posted by jdb3 on Mar 10 2006
Josh, I have oned many 44's over the years but have sold them and now I take the 480.  I have had mine cut down by Wildwest guns in Anchorage (the wolverine) and really like it.  I carried it for years in the original (7 1/2) barrel configuation.  If you are going to continue with the longer barrel I suggest you take a look at the Pistol Packaging Bandoleer holster.  They have a web site, pistolpackageing.com and if you want one I will sell you one at a reduced price.  I have carried mine for four or five years with this rig and it was very comfy.

The 480 will recoil much less than the 454 but it is still more than the 44.  However, it will launch a 325 grain bullet at 1450 fps (Speer factory ammo) and a 375 grin bullet at 1300 fps.  Anything over 1000 fps will kill just about anything you are likely to run into.  John Taffin put a 410 grain bullet completely through both shoulders of an American Bison at 60 yards at 1000 fps.

If you need loading info email me.  Jim
