Find any evergreen tree, spruce, pine, etc. and looks around the truck of the tree for little globs of old pitch, especially around old knots, scars etc.  It usually wont take you too long to gather a good supply even if it just comes in little pieces.  Then find some sort of dry burnable fiber; paper, cotton T shirt or whatever, kneed the pitch into it and you have a great fire starter.  Just think small when starting the task.
