changes are coming
Posted by Byron_Lamb on Mar 11 2006
I think we're going to see some changes made. We've been working on this for some time, although its just now becoming "public" information for those who have not worked with the process from the begining.
Its basic human nature for folks not to like change, however change is needed. Our newly re-instated governing body commonly known as the "Guide Board", is the driving force behind a lot of these new changes.
Briefly, there are several issues that need addressed. The more important ones will get the most attention first. There has been conflicts between different user groups in regards to our State resorces; some changes are aimed at reducing these conflicts. Another important topic is a supply & demand issue w/ Alaska's natural resources. To better assure the long term conservation of our game resources some changes should be considered. Quality of outdoor experince for ALL user groups is another very important issue that some of the changes are aimed at; this is a huge state w/ lots of resorces and there should be plently of area & game for each different user group to enjoy/use in a responsibly manor.

If you look at these changes as a "whole", looking at the big picture, I think you'll see the intent is for long term conseravtion of our states resources for everyone. A major concern that I have on a personal level, also the same view that is shared by many other people, is the internal fighting amoung ourselves. Specifically I what I mean by "fighting amoung ourselves" is the different user groups each doing battle with each other. Regardless is you're a resident, non-resident, guide-outfitter, if you live on the road system or bush, using a transporter to access a hunting spot, or drive your pick-up to go hunting, we are ALL using the same resources and we ALL have a vested interest in taking care opf our land & wildlife.
Make no mistake about it, the "ant's" are well organized, aligned, and well funded. There are some people in this world that would like to see ALL hunting stopped.
Because any collective group of people can not all agree on any single issue, rules & regulations are implimented. I urge to look at these changes with an open mind and consider the alternative. It would be better if the different user groups didn't fight amoung ourselves. This is an opportunity for everyone to express there opinions, add information, and then craft rules & regulations that will better assure long term conservation & user access to everyone.

Good Hunting..>Byron Lamb
