Accuracy
Posted by B_M on Mar 12 2006
niceguy - I'm not here to give you a lecture on ethical shots, so please don't take it as such.  What I want to point out is that very, very few shooters in the entire world are capable of shooting accurately out to 1500 meters, regardless of the rifle in their hands.  To consider a gun based on that kind of information is...well, silly.  Even the most trained of military snipers would be hard pressed to make such a shot, so why would a hunter consider such a thing?  Really, if you are truly accurate 99% of the time out to 300 meters you are doing much better than most hunters.  I've taken shots out to 400 yards, though I don't think I'd do it again.  I was successful, but if I'm honest with myself I have to admit that I was beyond my limits.

Anyhow, in considering the rifle I would look at balistics and accuracy inside 300 yards, bullet availability, and recoil - but leave the ultra-long shots for the elite military.  Besides, stalking close takes a lot of skill as well and the challenge makes the hunt much more enjoyable.

Just my opinion, though.
