my 2 cents

I don't mean to make any inaccurate assumptions about what you are trying to do with this rifle, but I think you may want to reconsider your options if you are looking to use this as a hunting rifle.  As a few others have already pointed out, the vast majority of hunting shots are within 300 yards, and the vast majority of hunters probably shouldn't attempt shots longer than that regardless of what they are shooting.
That said, I am a big fan of .338 caliber rifles, although I have a slightly different opinion than most have expressed on here.  I think you would be better served in virtually any imaginable (and probable) hunting situation with a 338-06.  Brass is cheap and readily available, you can actually afford to shoot the thing without breaking the bank, and it doesn't pack nearly the recoil of the Lapua.  My dad has had three different 338-06's over the years, and used it to kill both moose and grizzlies.  To the best of my knowledge, he has only needed more than one shot once, and that was at one of those long shots most of us have no business taking in the first place.  I don't currently have a 338-06, but it will probably be my next rifle.
Now, if you just want to have a big gun because thats your cup of tea, I'm sure either of the two you mention will be fine.  For a real world hunting situation, however, I would be much more comfortable with something smaller that is completely reliable at actual hunting ranges.  Thats just my 2 cents.
