Point Blank Range
Posted by Murphy on Mar 13 2006
blackfoot,

I find interesting your comment about point blank range.  The purpose of PBR is to just hold on the target without compensating for range, and just shoot. What are you presently using for PBR and what caliber?  With +3.5" at 100 yds your high point (Max Ord) must be 5" and that would make a kill zone of 10" and would be about 300 yds limit any way.   Some mileage may vary and these numbers will differ from caliber to caliber but by less than an inch for all hunting rifles.  Also I think it unlikely you would even see a spring bear at 200 yds, except along the beaches, so I would zero for 100 yds and shoot that out to 200 yds for practice.  Most calibers would only be about 2.5" low at 200 yds with a 100 yd zero.  The real advantage of a modern flat shooting rifle is that you can sight in at the most likely distance at which you would engage targets and allow the rifle to do the rest.  Good shootin'.
