i love to read "theories, energy, PBR, and velocity and all that good stuff. does anyone know that bears can't read? numbers end up matter ing to very little when it comes to shooting bears. the body of a bear has so many diffent textures all the way thru depending on where you hit him. if you punch him behind the shoulder...almost any gun will go thru, there not much there, hit a leg bone and you've just hit a boney baseball bat, things change..your bullet that you wanted to mushroom...just did all of it at once, quit penentrating and pissed him off. In an ideal world a bear would get shot and say"oh crap that was a 378 wbthy with 5000lbs of enegery and a barnes XXX, its over!" fall over it and it'd be done. but thats not how it works. Your caliber of gun is a very little roll in the death of a brown bear, what bullet you put...where. Thats what matters. Exit holes are great, some guys don't like it, say they lost the energy. ok, so you lost a tiny bit of energy but you just gained a whole bunch or ruined tissue and some more lungs falling on the ground. I'll take the exit hole ever time.
I hate to tell ya but no matter how much time you pick and choose your rifle, load and bullet. it'll all depend on your judgment in the field. no gun will make up for your error in shot placement. Hunt with confidence and kill a bear the old way...by actually shooting it. works great! good luck!!
