So not the case!!!

I see what bogus statements you are trying to demonstrate… but conceptually your justification is way flawed.  The rifle is a tool and a rifleman should make every effort to learn how it works for the trade.

PBR figures are ingredients of the equation and for the field endeavor.  If it meant nothing and was a joke… how do you explain the big move in the optics world to all these new Balisti-plex, Boone & Crocket, and other predetermined zeroes on reticles?  Don’t bother to dispute the joke part to any further extent.  PBR is no illusion!  This is precisely why the scope companies (including rangefinder companies - often one in the same) are making the efforts they are to take the distance judgment and hold overs out of the shooters need for thinking/adjusting/accounting.

Lots of meaningful info to be learned from knowing windows of PBR.  You can witness this on the cheaper side from proven super or reasonably accurate rimfires any day of the week on paper or on small game, plus the small center fire cartridges for punching paper or prairie dog size animals at all kinds of ranges.

It is no joke!!  To say this is all gag is in fact groundless!!!  That’s one of the most substantiating rationales for having so many calibers and cartridges to choose from for all the different tasks and ranges we ask of firearms.

One of the things to consider probably more is something I’ll dub the MRS or Maximum Responsible Shot (to each there own).

As others related - it is about placing a game suitable round where it counts.  All the power in a .460 WBY will not slay big game in its tracks if you nick it in the foot.  Likewise you won’t be anchoring a high percentage of heavy game (even when hit perfectly) using a 22 lr.
