They have few calories and are completely devoid of any other nutrients. I'm guessing he was talking about the Lipton noodle packets - creamy garlic, alfredo, etc. These have more calories and are more filling. Ramen is fine if you just need something to warm your belly, but it's woefully inadequate as a main course. I used to bring it along, though. We'd mix it with Uncle Ben's boil-in-the-bag rice (no mess) and mix it with some marinated ground squirrel meat on sheep hunts. Those ground squirrels have more fat than meat, but once you clean them they're pretty tasty...as long as you're generous with the teryaki seasoning. :) Ramen is a fine side dish or mix-in, but nothing more.
