Holes
Posted by Bill S. on Mar 17 2006
There use to be a theory that it was best that all the energy of the bullet was expanded on the game and the bullet stayed inside, the optimum being just under the skin on the far side.  Ther eis a lt to say good about that.  However, in my limited experience, I have found that most animals do not go instantly down at the shot unless you hit the spine or take a head shot.  Just an entry wound does not usually give a good blood trail, the hole being relatively small but most exit wounds help with a much better blood trail allowing you to find the critter.  So thwo holes as Murphy stated is the best way to go.
