I feel the same way as Mike and Mark, though it's nice to have the validation of two hunters I respect.  I was reading these posts earlier and wondering if I had it all wrong...  

Anyhow, I usually find my bullet inside my moose and caribou too.  I shot a spike bull this year at about 35-40 yards with a 30-06 and recovered both bullets.  No meat damage at all - just some tore up lungs.  Wouldn't have it any other way!
