338 RUM
Posted by K.P. on Mar 17 2006
Niceguy0777,
I have a permit to hunt Bear on Ugak Bay (Kodiak) this spring. I was torn on buying the 375 RUM or the 338RUM for this hunt. I ended up getting the Remington 700 in 338RUM (laminated stainless Steele.) I am shooting the 250gr Swift A-Frame bullet. I decided on this rifle caliber after quite a bit of research. It will suit my needs quite well as a Kodiak Bear gun, as well as replacing my old and tattered moose gun (338Win.) I had the gun ported, installed a Limbsaver recoil pad, and placed a Leupold 3.5-10 VX-III on the top. The rifle is loud but shoots like dream. I personally like this combination of bullet and caliber and only see one possible draw back, it might be hard to find bullets if I were to run out in the outback. That simply wont happen as I prepare well when I plan a hunt. If it can screw up a hunt then I remember to fix it. Bullets are at the top of my list, baby wipes are next...
Was my decision on this rifle, caliber, bullet, and scope a mistake? Time will tell...
