GPS FOR HUNTING ?????

Just a quick question for the people that use a GPS while hunting .
My son wants to buy one to use on a Caribou and Black bear hunt this year. I have not used one so the question is what is a good one ???
I looked through Cabelas and such but most of them had road maps .
Would like to see one that leaves a snail trail where you have been .
Any help would be great . I will pass the information on to my son.
