went to one years ago when i first started guiding and asked his advice for a young guide on kodiak..he said this"no way i'd give a guy like you a client on kodiak!". i walked away and that spring guided my client to a ten foot one inch brown bear. have since lost some respect for mr want.
Rumor has it, and it is strickly a rumor, he didn't pay packers or assitant guides, it was a privildge to work for him. no doubt he banged some of the best bears on kodiak and had the best skull average on the island. The guys who got his area after him went in and took 6 out of 8 bears that were all over 10 foot and all made the all time BC book. sounds like a bustin' area to me!!
that all being said, regardless of my opinion of mr want there is no doubt that his bear experience is valid and you can learn alot from him presintation.
