It is possible but you will most likely be disappointed with the results for two reasons.
First it will require an ultra stable tripod and second most systems require you to use F11 or F16. You will also need a remote release for the camera. A 40 power scope translates to a 1,000 mm lens and even under the best of circumstances for normal photography you would need a shutter speed of at least 1/125 and a absolute rock stable mount to get a decent photo. Add mirage into the mix and it even gets worse. Possible yes, grainy and blurry, most likely.
