Sam, I'm on an AC also. Bio's don't run the meetings. The chairman of the committee does. I would disagree that any bio has a strong prescence. He/she is there to give the facts and also to give the departments views. You can be sure the dept's views are not JUST those of the bio. I've seen a few times when bio's don't give the locals what they want. They give the data, that's about it.
The bio's are answerable to their regional supervisor. I'm surprised that a bio in one area can do a trend count using a different method than another bio. I would think the admin heads determine what methods are used. I'll have to check.
Bio's on their own don't put in proposals. I don't doubt he gives advice to the AC, as well as anyone else who asks, when proposals get written. His influence is only what the data tells him. His ability to influence the BoG is only as strong as the data the dept presents. However, you can just about predict that a proposal supported by locals and by data, as in aerial counts, and supported by the dept. will pass.
We'd all like to have our own little 25 miles of interior river to hunt. Probably can't get ya that tho. Only a select few deserve that. Maybe if we can talk to the right people, we could get ya, oh, say........30 miles along the Parks hiway. Would that work?<grin>.
