[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] Bear charge Posted by .338 mag. on Mar 28 2006 I believe if a bear is intent on making contact and he is under 25 yds. most of us are in trouble. A bear is dangerous when he is close. It seems like the victim often trips and has trouble manipulating the weapon at these times. It happens fast and having your rifle in your hands may be the deciding factor. One of mine came on all fours with a growl, popping teeth and the upper lip going up and down. I was chambered and pointed in when it came through the brush. If I am not hunting them and have a run in with a bear I will shoot before they hit the 30 foot mark if they are running at me. It will probably never happen again. In 40 years of hunting Alaska the only 2 bears I had a problem with were two weeks apart. The Brown Bear is dead and I was lucky the Black Bear changed it's mind because my reaction time was nothing to brag about. So whether it is 3, 5 or 10 seconds it happens fast. Get as mentally prepared as you can and practice off hand at close range. Thats my 2 cents. Previous: judgement pistol shooting... Kid Mar 28 2006 Next: Bear Charges art Mar 30 2006 Message Thread:
