Bear Charge and Practice
Posted by Jake_65_65 on Mar 28 2006
First let me clarify that I am not going into the woods petrified and paranoid of a bear charge.  I do however think that every time I go out into the woods there is a possibility of a encounter.  What the odds are I and know one else knows.

I do find it troubling that some one here think practicing is worthless (the impression I got from some).  Sure if a bear charges from the back, out of sight, its bad news.  I was only asking for thoughts on how to better practice.  And also what is a good standard of proficiency to shoot for with either a rifle, shotgun, or handgun.

I love to go shooting, and I love to go shooting even more if there is some sort benifit that can gain from it.  I feel that anyone who carries a firearm in the woods with the intention of stopping bear should at least practice to some standard.  Am I wrong for thinking this?

Anyway I would still be interesed in some fun/interesting/helpful shooting drills kind of like the swinging barrel idea, but more practical.  Sorry to open a can of worms, but I just find it troubling that some people consider practice and becoming profiecient with your firearm unneeded.
