Handgun practice
Posted by Ed M on Mar 28 2006
I backpack a lot with a handgun.  I carry a Tuarus Titanium on the waistbelt of my pack.  This is what I do.

I have a creek with steep banks running through my property.  I load my pack with a 50 pound sandbag, same as I use for cardio training.  I will take an old basketball/vollyball/soccer ball and throw it as hard as I can up the bank.  I must get re-composed from the loss of balance from throwing the ball with the pack on, un-snap, draw, and fire as the ball is bouncing back down the bank towards me.  Similar to a bear's head going up and down as it runs.

Suggest if you try it that you begin with an unloaded gun until you get the mechanics of the motion worked out.  I had a premature firing once just as the barrel cleared the holster.  It was all part of the learning curve.  In the excitement of getting the gun ready as soon as possible I was obviously squeezing the trigger too early. That is why you practice to get these things worked out.
