How about Parkerizing?
Posted by KelvinG on Apr 22 2006
I am a little surprised no one mentioned Parkerizing.  Maybe you can't Parkerize stainless steel.
I would spend a week or two about a boat poking around Kodiak.  , I would oil my guns every night, but after 4 or 5 days on the water I would find some rust on them every morning.  I finally took two of my favorite Kodiak guns in and had them Parkerized.  I still oiled them every night, but never found rust on them again.  I have been told the reason is bluing is a smooth coating, which gives the oil little to cling on.  Parkerizing is a rougher coating that gives the oil a lot to hang on, (microscopically speaking).
