Imediately after buying the rifle, I wished I would have gotten a .30 cal, mainly because of a much larger range of bullet types and weights. The type of shooting I do right now is at the range shooting holes in steel, but am going to get into hunting. The first time I pulled the trigger on the 270, I felt the recoil was not bad in the slightest. Now the recoil feels like nothing to me, partially do to my 45-70 marlin, and I would like to move up to a 300 win mag. the 300 win mag would be a replacement for the 270 and be my rifle to use on everything in the US. I've herd it is a great caliber, very versitile for everything in the lower 48 states, and would trade in my Rem to help pay for the 300. I know the 30-06 is a great round, but I would like a little extra umf. I am trying to decide on what rifle to look for in this caliber. I want to stay in the $400-$600 range and have heard that Savage rifles have a good reputation for being affordable, well made, and accurate out of the box. I would most likely purchase one of their packages with the scope. Can anyone give me any advice on the caliber and rifles in the caliber. Does anyone have a savage in this caliber and how do you like it? Sorry for such a long post, but I wanted to give an Idea of what I'm looking for. thank Next: another option fish doc May 02 2006 Message Thread:
