electrical problem on 2004 polaris 500 HO: No ins
Posted by jssbastiat on Apr 18 2006
i did a stupid....i took a new battery and put it in backwards....only hooked up the postive side of the battery to the negative cable...smelled smoke and turned the key off....man, dang, i feel stupid even telling this story on the net....so, i hooked the battery up correctly and no power to the instrument cluster or lights....

i followed the book and tested the ECM and the Inst. Cluster wires for volts.....going TO the ECM i have power ONLY to  the E and F pins as called for in the book.......then going TO the instrument panel 16 pin connection i have "#1 red 12v constant fulltime" getting power with or without the key on AND THEN "#2 red/white 12 v switched" is getting nothing at all as well as NO other pin on that 16 pin cluster?

which should i buy first...the ECM or the Inst. Cluster?

thanks,
