Alaska saltwater fishing charters

Alaska offers a wide range of experiences for fishermen wanting to fish offshore. Salmon and halibut in Alaska waters are famous, but other species like rock fish, ling cod, crab, shrimp and sharks are available in some localities. Some Alaska fishing charters provide half or full day trips, others provide complete trip packages including on-shore lodging and meals, and others provide days-long live aboard cruises.

If you are new to  in Alaska, the task of selecting a saltwater fishing charter can seem daunting, especially in the face of hundreds of possibilities from Ketchikan to Bristol Bay.  To make your task a little easier, we have divided our Alaska deep sea fishing business listings into Southeast Alaska and Southcentral Alaska.  We have also provided additional information about the regions and the fishing within them below.

Depending on the tides for the day, your charter will depart out of Ninilchik or Homer, where you'll spend a full day of fishing for the average 25-50 pound halibut, feisty salmon and the fun catching rockfish. Southeast Alaska regionSoutheast Alaska -- the "panhandle" -- is one of Alaska's crown jewels.  It is a productive environment for a wide variety of fish and wildlife, and scenic as well.   "Southeast", as it is called in Alaska, is well known for its wet weather, but this wetness is related to its productivity.  The warm waters of the Pacific upwell off the coast bringing nutrients for marine life. The precipitation makes fish streams--many of them.  The result is deep sea fishing that is, in a word, excellent.

See our southeast Alaska regional page for more information about weather, geography, fishing conditions, and RealAudio™ interviews with state fisheries biologists.

Southcentral Alaska regionSouthcentral Alaska is Alaska's most populous region, and one of its most productive for fish and wildlife. Prince William Sound, Cook Inlet, the Kodiak Archipelago, Bristol Bay and the Alaska Peninsula all boast well-known fisheries. As elsewhere on the Alaska coast, the weather tends toward moist, but can at times be quite pleasant in the summer months. The fishing here is quite good.

See our southcentral Alaska regional page for more information about weather, geography, fishing conditions, and RealAudio™ interviews with state fisheries biologists.
