Randy Garrett makes 310 grain hammerheads for the 44 and 330 grain bullets for the 44 the 330's are +p ammo.  These bullets are very hard and are meant for deep penetration.  They however have a lot of recoil!!  But I feel the best bullet for what you are describing for bear protection!!!  And they are expensive about 65.00 a box.  He has a good web site.
