There are several reasons,one being much less maintance. Other reasons are More deck room and a very large fish box where the motors were. I have talked to a local guide that run the new style Volvo GM block and is switching to outboards this winter. His main reasin is reliability. Last season he lost three of the volvo's and is tired of the Maintance issues. He also has a boat that he switched to outboards ten years ago and the only thing he has had to do to them is change the oil.
