Adequate boat for Kenai to Kustatan River across I

We are looking at a 17' aluminum v hull with a 60 HP Honda jet and wondering if this is adequate for trips across the Inlet from Kenai to the Kustatan River area or Big River area if the water is relatively calm? Any suggestions?
