Linda,
I run a 14 foot avon with a 30 and find it to be a great boat. Only concerns I have are when winds exceed 30 and chop builds above four feet, then it can be slow going and miserable. I have seen 8 foot sees 7-10 miles offshore in the cook inlet and didn't feel threatened at all, actually had fun surfing them in. (Mabey not the best idea though). Bring all safety equip, marine radio, and good company and all should go absolutely swell. If you want to go out on a thursday or friday let me know and I'll take you for a glacier cruise in my 19 foot RIB w/ twin 70's, all I ask for is Gas $ and good humor.
