Best South Central AK Saltwater Boat?
Posted by jrogers on Mar 06 2006
OK, I think I am still a year or two from making the jump, but I was interested in others opinions of the best boat for our region. Let me give you some of my parameters. I have a wife and three girls, so it needs to be a camper on the water that I can fish from. Since most trips will be weekend trips, speed on the water will be more of a concern than fuel economy. Ideally I would like the option of going out of Whittier, Homer, and Seward, so I would like to be trailer-able, but will most likely be in Whittier most of the time. I have thought about some of the nicer aluminums like Lifetimer and Coastal Craft, but I like being able to sleep 4 or 6 before having to put a tent on the fishing cockput for the night. At this point my first choice is the Ocean Sport Roamer 30, followed cloesely by the SeaSport Voyager 30. These boats seem pretty impressive for ones you can trailer. 600 miles of range, and pretty good miles and good speed. Am I missing another competitor to these? I want more interior room and a nicer finish than the opsprey's or other such boats targeted at the hard core fisherman. These boats are in the $200K+ range, so I want to get it right the first time.

Jim
