Teklanika Boating
Posted by graylingwizard on Mar 10 2006
I have been up the Teklanika as far as you can go with a jet boat. That would be with-in 15 to 20 miles of the north border of Denali N.P.
I have been up there in flood conditions, as well as during super low water.
The floating from there down would be no problem.
If you are looking at going in at the Stampede Trail, I have researched that. A kayker here in Fairbanks tells me that only a few people have gone down the Tek from there. There is apparently a short canyon that is class 5+. He said that his kayak got sucked under for 45 seconds to a minute in one spot through the canyon.
I was interested in dragging my 19' aquare stern with a 15hp, down the Stamede trail to the Tek and floating down to Nenana...until I heard his story.
It might be possible to float down from the ATV trail going west of the Parks Highway just south of the green bridge, by the Teklanika Gift Shop. Haven't heard of anyone trying that.
Hope that helps.
