I am not about to tell you it's completly un-doable, but I would at least want a marine radio.  GPS/compass and charts are also crucial, although I have not seen fog this time of year, I am sure it could happen.  Getting lost in fog/weather is dangerous, you can't tell people where you are and they won't find you.  Although I have been in 8 foot seas in a 14 footer, I wouldn't want to do it on purpose, and I really wouldn't want to do it with extreme april winds, fully loaded with bear and fuel.  But, if you are a good skipper (don't lie to yourself, only you know) it could be done.  Water Taxi!!  Cheaper than death.
