Good luck. I like the fact that you don't live in a rubber room. You have a sense of adventure, and you did the right thing by asking for information from those that have experience. 100 years ago the boats that traveled all over alaska and the ocean would be by today's standards -- be outlawed and the irresponsible captains made to walk the plank. Its all relative and your zest for doing something other than just sit in a rubber room, or ride around in a 30 foot cruiser is really refreshing. I have sea Kayak from Homer to Seward in seas that 30 foot boats would not attempt. I was never in danger and all of us and our kayaks made the trip now 6 years running. Its all about attitude and preparation. I was almost saddened when you opted out for the larger boat.. but you have the right idea...good luck and God speed..
