Pick your days carefully.  It can be God awful in Passage Canal and then smooth beyond.....or just the opposite.  I've seen smallish boats fishing for silvers near Pigot Point, but the water was dead calm.  If you do go, be sure to take the required safety equipment...flares, VHF radio, etc.  If things get bad while you're on the water, you should probably be prepared to beach your boat and wait it out (with whatever you need for that, too).
