Your right. My 24' jon with over 1000 lbs usable load will only do 18-20 mph upstream in the Chena and 23 down. However the 35 hp surface drive will push the boat until it won't float, runs in mud, silt, weeds and brush and burns between 2.5 and 3 gph at full throttle. I have seen 30 mph when I was running light.
